Bharti Airtel has joined hands with Apple to launched India’s first 4G LTE service on mobile phones. Back in April 2012, Bharti Airtel was the first telecom operator in India to introduce 4G LTE data-only service. Again Bharti Airtel is the first telecom operator in India to launch 4G LTE on mobile phones.
Airtel’s 4G LTE for mobile is currently available only in Bangalore and works only on iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.If you have older iPhone and other Android device with 4G capabilities, you will not be able to take advantage of this service, as Airtel uses TD-LTE in the 2,300 MHz band frequency which at the moment is only supported by latest Apple iPhones.
Airtel is using the CSFB (circuit switched fall back) technology instead of VoLTE (Voice over LTE), what this means is you can browse internet at 4G speed but when you make or receive a call the network switches to 2G/3G.
To get 4G LTE, you will have to visit Airtel store to exchange your 2G/3G sim card with 4G capable sim card. After this you will just need to select a data pack and you will start experiencing 4G data speed. If you already have a 3G data plan active then it will automatically be converted to a 4G plan. The 4G service is available for both prepaid and postpaid customers at the 3G prices.
This service will soon be launched in other major cities of India. We will have an Airtel 4G experience review for you in a few days.
Let us know in the comments section, if you have used Airtel 4G LTE yet.
