 How to install iOS 7

Apple’s latest mobile operating system iOS 7 is now available for download on your iDevices. You may be new to iDevices so updating to the latest version of iOS might require some assistance for some of you out there. You are at right place, we are going to take you through the exact step by step procedure to update your device to iOS 7.

iOS 7 compatible devices

iPhone – iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.

iPad – Second, third and fourth generation, iPad mini.

iPod touch – 5th generation (16GB, 32GB, 64GB).

Preparing for the update

If your device is compatible with iOS 7 then you will have two options of how to update your device. You can update via connecting your device to your computer for which you will require latest version of iTunes, which you will get from Apple’s website; alternatively you can install new iOS over-the-air wirelessly for which you will require a reliable Wi-Fi connection.

Before starting the update to iOS 7, we strongly recommend backing up your device. This way if anything goes wrong in the update process you will not loose any of your important data, and if you are doing a full restore then you will require a backup to restore your device.

Backup Your device to your computer

Connect your device to the computer and open iTunes. Click on your device which on connection, shows up on the top right corner of iTunes window.

Then on the summary tab, scroll down to Backups section and press Back Up Now button.

Installing iOS 7

As we told you earlier, you can either install iOS 7 over-the-air or you can do it by connecting to computer. The easier process is over-the-air installation, but you need a reliable Wi-Fi network because this update can take over 1 Gigabyte of data. Installing by connecting to computer is faster. We will first explain how perform over-the-air update and then update by connecting to computer.

Installing iOS 7 Over-the air

This process is fairly simple, in most cases you might see a red badge on the settings icon when a software update is available from Apple. To download and install this update you have to open settings and navigate to General > Software Update. There you will see the version name of the new software waiting to be installed.

iOS 7 OTA update

Even if the settings icon is not showing the red badge and you know there is a update available, you can force your device to search for the update by above mentioned process.

Installing iOS 7 over-the-air might take some time so make sure your device has over 50 percent of charge remaining, if not then plug in your device to a charging point before starting the update. Once you press the download and install button, you will have to go through few on screen instructions and then iOS 7 will be downloaded and installed all by itself.

Installing iOS 7 via computer

If you want to install the update via your computer, you just have to plug your phone to the computer and open iTunes. Ideally iTunes should prompt you to update your device to iOS 7, if you get no such message then you can check for the update yourself by clicking Check for Updates button on Summary screen of your device.

This will check and show you the available iOS 7 update. By clicking on download and update button your update will begin. You can wait for the download to be completed or you can continue with other tasks. Once the download is complete iTunes will start the update process, your device will restart and new iOS will be installed. All your data will be safe during this update. However if something goes wrong in the process and your data is compromised, you can always restore the data using the backup you made before starting the update process.

Congratulations you now have Apple’s new iOS 7 installed on your device. Go on, play and familiarise yourself with the new operating system. If you have any problem in the install process then let us know in the comments section and we will help you solve the problem.
