On September 9th, 2014 Apple has introduced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at its event in Cupertino, California. Both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are bigger, thinner and faster than any previous generation iPhones. iPhone 6 sports a 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 6 Plus comes with a massive 5.5-inch screen. The event was held at historic Flint Center in Cupertino – The same place where Steve Jobs introduced the original Mac in 1984 and the first iMac 1998.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both carry a new design with rounded edges instead of shiny chamfered edges seen on iPhone 5 and 5s. Both new iPhones feature an anodized aluminium back while the glass on the front is curved around the sides. The iPhone 6 at 6.9mm and iPhone 6 Plus at 7.1mm are the thinnest phones Apple has ever made. These phones will be available in three colors Gold, Silver and Space-grey.

The new iPhones feature Apple’s new Retina HD Display. iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1334 x 750, with a pixel density of 326 ppi; and iPhone 6 Plus has a massive 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which means pixel density of 401 ppi.
The new iPhones come with Ion-strengthened glass, which is less susceptible to drops and scratches.

The following image shows how big the new screens are when compared to the iPhone 5s.

Apple’s new generation 64-bit A8 processor makes its way to both the iPhones. Apple claims A8 is at least 25% faster than the A7 by processing power, and 50% faster in graphic rendering process. The A8 is also said to be 50 percent more energy-efficient compared to the A7, which means we could see better battery life for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are equipped with advanced wireless capabilities, offering up to 150 Mbps LTE, and supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
Apple has finally added NFC capabilities to both the new phones to support its new Apple Pay payment system and easy mobile payments.

Both phones have 8-megapixel iSight camera on the back with True Tone flash, 1.5-micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture and an all-new sensor. The rear cameras can now shoot at 240fps slow motion videos. iPhone 6 and 6 Plus now have “phase detection” auto focus (found in most high-end DSLR’s), which allow much faster photo focusing.
iPhone 6 comes with Digital Image Stabilization while the iPhone 6 Plus has Optical Image Stabilization.

The new iPhones will now be available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB internal memory options. By eliminating the 32GB variant, Apple has made 64GB variant of iPhone 6, $100 cheaper than last year’s 64GB variant of the iPhone 5s.

The 16GB iPhone 6 will cost $199 on contract, 64GB will be available for $299 and top of the line 128GB will be available at $399, while the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus will cost $299, 64GB will cost $399, and 128GB will set you back $499.
