Are you finding it difficult to choose between an 11-inch MacBook air and a 13-inch MacBook air? Well things got a bit more difficult for you as apple introduced the new 12-inch retina MacBook. The new MacBook looks absolutely stunning and comes in 3 colours – Silver, Gold and Space Grey and it further widens the range of laptops that Apple has to offer.
This new MacBook offers a 12-inch retina display which is covered be an edge-to-edge cover glass. At the thickest point the new MacBook measures 13.1mm and goes down to 3.5mm at its thinnest point, and weighs only 2.03 pounds (0.902kg). It has a brand new keyboard, with 40% thinner keys than the traditional keyboard.
With this new MacBook Apple has taken a bold step and introduced a single USB C port, which is the most talked about feature of this MacBook. This single port serves as a Power, USB, Display, HDMI and VGA port. The only other port available on this notebook is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
On the inside it is packed with 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM and an option of 256GB or 512 GB of SSD but a major concern is the Intel Core M dual-core processor, clocked at 1.1GHz or 1.2GHz which is configurable to 1.3GHz processor. It also carries a fan-less design, which helps keep the PCB size to minimum, making more space for the battery.
The battery in this new machine also has a new design and is stacked on each other so that 35% more battery can be packed in this MacBook. With this increased battery and a low powered processor this MacBook can last up to 9-10 hours, which is good for a day’s worth of work.
This is not a powerhouse laptop and if you want to edit videos and/or photos then you must definitely look for a MacBook Pro. We will have to wait for its comparison with the MacBook Air to see how well this MacBook can perform.
The new MacBook will be available from 10th April and will start at $1299 in the US and Rs.99,900 in India for the base 256GB storage and $1599 in the US and Rs.119,900 in India for the 512GB storage option.
